Dave Parr former sex cinema projectionist and current chief projectionist at the Woolton Picture house Liverpool.
Dave’s early career in cinemas first began back in 1969 at the Tatler in Church street Liverpool. After cutbacks Dave was moved to the Plaza cinema in Allerton as a assistant projectionist. Much to Dave’s disappointment Shortly after in 1971 the Plaza was demolished and Classic did not offer Dave another position at any of their remaining cinemas.
Dave later joined the Rank organisation working at the Odeon London road, Liverpool. But once again Dave was replaced and lost his job with Rank.
Following a brief spell at the Hoylake cinema, in 1975 Dave finally had the chance of a more promising position as the chief Projectionist at the recently twinned Astra cinema in Maghull. Dave was unable to hold this job down for long either and in 1976 found himself waving goodbye to The Hutchinson leisure group and his position as Chief at the Astra cinema
Failing to make a lasting career with any of the major local cinema chain’s Dave went to work for a small time cinema club showing predominantly sex and gore movies. After this cinema closed In the early 1980`s Dave’s local cinema options had all but dried up and “disillusioned Dave” left the cinema business altogether.
After being out of cinemas for over twenty years, In 2004 Dave was given a trial as the new Chief projectionist at Woolton Picture house. However after just six months in the job the Woolton cinema`s owner the late David Wood had already offered Daves job to three other people in the hope of replacing him. Following the sudden death of the cinemas stalwart employee David Swindell in 2004 and after the untimely death of the cinemas owner David Wood in 2006, Fortuitously Dave survived his position and currently still remains at the Picture house in Woolton as its Chief Projectionist..
